Yesterday I saw The Wolf of Wall Street.
It’s cool, very cool… but it hasn’t become one of my favorite movies.
It’s quite common nowadays to record a movie based on a Wall Street story, and it’s getting more and more popular. Take some men with a desperate desire of money, few monitors with numbers and percentage scrolling, an incredibly competitive business environment and mix all together with a sprinkling of cocaine, alcohol, escort and various drugs. Here’s the movie after all. However The Wolf of Wall Street does something more.
The movie itself it’s gorgeous… very very well acted (Di Caprio worths the oscar guys), and very well executed. The scenes sometimes are a little bit excessive and also the music is sometimes in contrast with the things that are happening on the screen, but it’s ok: it's all designed to enhance the concept of madness that pervades the movie.
Nonetheless… I’m not completely satisfied. Ok, the actors, the scenes, this sense of madness and and the amazing direction of the film… but I've exited from the movie theater with nothing more that a smile. Do not get me wrong, this movie absolutely worths the ticket, and it’s a great movie. However, perhaps I expected more. I don’t know precisely what, because overall it's all very nice, also the psychological depth about the characters is done greatly, also the setting… But. There is this "but" at the end, which doesn't makes the film one of my favorites, even though it has all the credentials to become. Something it’s missing.
It’s a great film, and I suggest you to go immediately to the nearest movie theater. It’s gorgeous, simply I don’t consider it as one of my favorite movie of all time.
